Offline-First Mobile Architecture for Field Teams

Technicians work in basements, plants, and rural routes. An app that assumes connectivity is an app that gets abandoned in week two.

Connectivity is the single most underestimated requirement in field mobility projects. The moment a technician loses signal mid-inspection and loses their work with it, adoption collapses and paper comes back.

Offline-first means the local database is the source of truth for the session. Writes land immediately, queue durably, and reconcile when the device reconnects. Conflict resolution is a product decision, not an afterthought: we define per-entity rules with the operations team before writing sync code.

We keep the sync layer boring and observable. Every queued mutation carries an idempotency key, sync attempts are logged with device and firmware context, and support staff can see exactly where a record is in the pipeline instead of guessing.

On top of that foundation, the interface is built for gloved hands and bright sunlight: large targets, high contrast, and camera capture that compresses on device before upload. The technology matters, but adoption is won in those details.
